Meet the Midwife
Shannon Greika, CPM, CDEM
Shannon Greika is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and Indiana licensed Certified Direct Entry Midwife (CDEM) offering home birth services in Central Indiana. Shannon graduated from Midwives College of Utah with an Associates of Science in Midwifery. Her journey into midwifery has been a long one starting with the birth of her own children. Each birth transformed her in so many ways which gave her a calling to serve mothers and babies.
Shannon’s career in birth services first began as a doula certified through Doulas of North America (DONA) working for Community Heath Network and in private practice. Shannon then apprenticed with a home birth certified nurse midwife for 3 1/2 years and birth assisted for several other home birth midwives. She also spent 6 weeks in the Philippines working in a high volume birth center delivering babies as a student midwife under supervision.
Shannon's birth philosophy is that she views pregnancy and birth as a natural, physiological process that the body is designed for. In most cases, giving birth is typically best and safest when left undisturbed as much as possible. However, at times intervention is needed and midwives are trained to identify when things fall outside of normal. Midwives are continually evaluating during the pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum period for risk factors or identification of problems that require transfer of care or consultation with a physician. Pregnancy and birth are also best supported with good nutrition, personal responsibility by the mother for the pregnancy, and attentive clinical management throughout the childbearing cycle. Midwifery care includes the family in the decision making process working together as a collaborative team giving individualized care in an unhurried environment. And lastly, giving birth is a powerful, life-changing experience, where babies, as well as mothers, are born.

Candice Schott, Student Midwife
"Find your village. Ask for help. You got this!”
Candice believes birth is one of the most impactful experiences of our lives – for both mothers and babies. The way we do it is one of the most important decisions we will ever make. She believes that the greatest legacy women leave behind is the love they give their children, and that love begins in the womb.
She aims to integrate functional nutrition and traditional practices to educate women while motivating health and well-being. Women’s health is a vulnerable realm, and it begs to be addressed with dignity and individuality. Given the proper groundwork, reproductive health is a positive, supportive, and rewarding experience.
Vibrant and compassionate, Candice brings 11 years of traditional midwifery experience and is consistent in honoring the intuition of the mother, deeply rooted in trust for birth. She creates a safe space to let birth unfold in all its beauty and variation. Her heart was called to homebirth where many parents felt empowered by having a greater sense of control over how their child is brought into the world. She believes that women have the wisdom they need for birth and motherhood seeded within them. Her goal is to help them discover it, nurture it, celebrate it, and pass it on to the next generation.
The intuition that comes with birthing and mothering children is a source of vitality and deep maternal grace for Candice. She grounds this perspective with each mother throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care. It’s a part of her heart and soul, and helping women achieve the birth of their dreams honors that calling. Birth is a time of transformation and healing, of gift given and gift received – centering on the mother and tailoring her individual care is the midwifery way.
After graduation in December, Candice is looking forward to providing maternity care, home births, and holistic women's wellness from menstruation to perimenopause and beyond. She is passionate about preparation for periods, body literacy, menstrual management, and self-care as a natural and easy part of a young girl’s life. Her goal is to build self-esteem, positive body image, and confidence in relationships. She hopes to change the dialogue around puberty so young teens celebrate the divine world of womanhood.
She is passionate about family, faith, homeschooling, and alternative birth practices such as vaccinations, circumcision, tandem nursing, and placenta encapsulation. She's a wife to her best friend of 24 years and they have 12 earthside children and 8 in heaven. She is a mother who birthed her children at home and as they walk into their own lives she is reminded of the importance of a strong network and trustworthy support. Her own experiences as a parent enhance her ability to laugh through, connect with, and empathize along all the unique moments that bring us to the next milestone on life’s journey.
In between catching babies and schoolwork, she adores spending time chasing her barefoot (and sometimes naked) kiddos, dancing to OG tracks of Snoop Dogg, Guns N Roses, and The Doors, family dinners around the table, and sleeping in nature.
Other Certifications/Workshops Completed:
- NRP Certified (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Adult CPR Certified
- B.E.S.T. Workshop Certified (Birth Emergency Skills Training)
